| "What I dont understand is the same as Odif. Alek is finally getting some calls back, people finally have the time to see him. So, we all should be here to and be happy for him! The purpose of his missions are to get himself noticed and in thier doors...looks like its starting to happen...."

I don't mean to put you on the spot, but how did the interview go?" Posted by alek on April 03/2003 "HOLY FREAKIN TYPO'S.....here is my revised version of my rant...
"Sorry folks, but I'm a bit confused here....why are some people getting so upset with what Alek is doing? Go through the posts, there are some very angry people, with some very angry posts. If you think what Alek is doing is stupid and won't work - then you should be happy, b/c that means less competition for you. Right? Or is the real reason that you are made b/c Alek is doing something different, something that you don't have the balls to do and getting good press for it ? The reality here is that us job seekers are out to get noticed. Most of us are comfortable with the good ol' telephone stalking (i know I am), but Alek is stepping out and saying 'Look at me......NOW look at my book' Bravo Alek.....bravo"" Posted by Odif on April 03/2003 "Sorry folks, but I'm a bit confused here....why are some people getting so upset with that Alek is doing?

This is for two reasons: 1) you get input on what's wrong with your book so that you can make it better and 2) if they like your stuff they'll hire you or send you to more people who may be hiring. I'm currently in between 1 and 2... my book is evolving into something much better than it was."
Posted by Justin on April 03/2003 "Dear Your Conscience:
You're obviously clueless about how to break into the business, so please shut up as soon as possible. Stunts don't get you a job. Your book gets you a job. And senior creative people have to see your book. That means seeing as many as humanly possible. Sure, stunts are one way to get your name and face in people's minds. But they have to be fucking good stunts. Unfortunately, and no offense intended, Alek's stunts have been lamer than lame. So the simpler - more obvious - approach of trying to book interviews is the way he should go. Your telemarketing remark is retarded and irrelevant. Are you in the business? Obviously not, because if you were, you would know how impossible it is to get anybody on the phone. Best of luck doing whatever it is that you do. In the meantime, Alek, please take my advice: make that list and start calling people. I promise you it's the only way you're going to get more than an interview every two or three weeks. good luck" Posted by A Tip For You on April 03/2003 "So Alek......when can we expect some more invasions, some more stunts?
While I am really happy that you are getting interviews, its not making for very interesting reading. Let's see something crazy..." Posted by Odif on April 03/2003 "It's painfully obvious he wants a job. Not just an interview. A Tip For You, stick to telemarketing!"
Posted by Your Conscience on April 03/2003 "Hi Alek!
Reading about your big search has been very inspring. Kuddo to your courage and your positive attitude! BTW have you read the book "Cutting Edge Advertising" by Jim Atchison? It's packed of great tips on how to come up with great ads. best of luck!" Posted by Dominique on April 02/2003 "Do you want interviews?
It's painfully fucking simple. You need to compile a list: a list of all the creative directors and the group creative directors in the city. Call the creative dept. secretary/assistant for the names, or look in the award issue of Marketing magazine for the names, or simply ask the receptionist who answers the fucking phone. Then start at the top of your list and call each person. One after the other. Do not leave them clever voicemail messages. Call and call and fucking call until you finally get someone on the phone. Then introduce yourself and attempt to get an interview. That is the ONLY way you will get to see people. Once you get to the bottom of your list (which should have 30-40 names on it), probably half an hour has passed. So, go back to the top and start again. Beside each name, mark down the time and date of every single call you make to them. That way you know who you've called and when. YOU HAVE TO LIVE ON THE PHONE. ALL DAY. EVERY DAY. After you see someone, send a reasonably clever thank you of some sort. Do not send a pizza or flowers or shit like that. Something cool and funny. good luck."
