| First Impression!
April 16|2003
I have to disagree with "Ro".
IMAGE is almost everything... (back to form & function in advertising). First impression, is the very lasting one. As young creatives or anyone else, we should have some sense of style; we have to look like we're serious and professional about what we do. When we meet with clients for the very first time, we have to present ourselves like they can TRUST us. We can't just go in looking like we just finished playing road-hockey. Same goes for interviews with C.Ds. Yes I know, someone here, is going to tell me, "But it's all about the book". True, but not really. As important as the book is. Besides the dress-code, you have to know how to sell yourself: how you introduce yourself, even the most simple gesture reflects on you. You must have some manners.
Like any corporation, agencies have their wardrobe regulations. Some are more conservative than others. But, once you're in, you can adjust accordingly to the environment.
You know how a car-dealer/salesperson tries to persuade you in his/her dirty ways, when ar they ever dressed-down?
Last thing; just to clear things up, I don't wear suits to interviews. I just dress appropriately. And I'm relaxed when I want to be.
