The Art Directors Club, the first creative collective of its kind with global membership in advertising, design and visual communications disciplines, names its Hybrid Award Jury Chair. The announcement was made by Ami Brophy, Executive Director of the ADC.
Chairing the Hybrid Award Jury for the 87th Annual Awards is Jon Kamen, chairman and chief executive officer @radical.media, a multi-disciplinary producer of television programs, feature films, branded content and theatre, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin and Sydney.
The ADC Hybrid Award honors the year's most outstanding work, focusing on innovation and the latest ingenious ways that brands are being communicated to the public. Beyond integrated executions, ADC Hybrid finalists define the vanguard of creativity, initiating dialogue between brands and consumers. Hybrid winners represent relevant, entertaining, engaging brand experiences and solutions.
“Jon Kamen is an ideal leader for ADC’s HYBRID jury as it seeks the most innovative and groundbreaking work. Jon believes the future of our industry belongs to brands and messages that connect with their audience on different levels and in experiential ways,” says Brophy.
A successful and eclectic innovator himself, Kamen used his often-uncharted vision to create a global, multi-platform content company. @radical.media, originally a commercial production company, has evolved into a premier producer of sponsored entertainment, award-winning commercials, and a multi-disciplinary integrated media company.
@radical.media connects brands with content and channels with talent. Consumers and brands appreciate the results. The company has produced and received accolades for numerous projects including; the Academy Award-winning The Fog of War, the Grammy-winning Concert for George and the Independent Spirit Awards Some Kind of Monster. Television credits include Iconoclasts for the Sundance Channel and an Emmy for 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America for the History Channel. Additionally, the company produced the premier episode of Mad Men for AMC, Gillette Young Guns Celebrity Race: Fast Cars and Superstars for ABC and The Gamekillers and Nike Battlegrounds for MTV.
Jon is also a veteran of pro bono efforts, serving on several industry and university boards, donating time and talent to various causes. He was an ADC Board member from 1998-2004, serving as its Vice President from 2003 to 2004.
“This category is one of the most exciting: it rewards the brave and the new. And what is fascinating is that each year, this category redefines itself and challenges us all to a new standard” explains Paul Lavoie, ADC Board President, Chairman& Chief Creative Officer, TAXI INC.
There couldn't be a more critical time for all of the industry award groups to examine the current state of the art of integrated media. ”Without the benefit of process and review we will never refine our collective craft as an industry. Sure it's nice to win another trophy, but truly there is nothing better than affirmation from ones peers that we're headed down the right path. The ADC has always provided a great benchmark and will continue in that tradition by providing a showcase for innovation through the Hybrid category. Having served on several juries in the past I'm looking forward to shaping the direction of this one." offers Kamen.
The ADC Hybrid Award has evolved beyond integrated advertising to focus on pure innovation. ADC Hybrid entries will be separated into two categories - General and Non-Profit. The jury will evaluate work submitted by ad agencies, interactive shops, design firms, production companies, media companies, photography studios, corporations and individuals based around the world. Last year, the ADC Annual Awards drew entries from 50 countries, 27 of which were represented as winners in the 86th Art Directors Annual.
The 87th Annual Awards Call for Entries opens officially on October 22, 2007 and was designed by thehappycorp, a New York-based design and branding studio. Results of the competition will be announced at a gala ceremony at the ADC Gallery in New York in the spring of 2008, and will be exhibited around the world and published in the Art Directors Annual 87, the longest-running archive of leading creative work in global advertising and design.
