The first night
May 22|2005

So after an amazing dinner next to the pool we headed down to the pool where they had a lovely cocktail reception. On my way there I bumped into my ol' friend Terry O'Reilly, aka king of radio, and Tom Eymundson from Pirate Radio. It's nice to meet people you know in these things, makes you feel safe and popular. Terry is probably one of the guys I respect and admire the most in Canada. If you haven’t met him, or heard him speak in public, you should try to catch his seminars. Tom and him will be speaking in the next days here at the festival.

After a couple of nice cocktails and shooting the crap with a variety of different people we headed into the hotel theatre for the TV Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This was pretty cool; they take a myriad of old spots, some as old as 10 years and they get ‘reseen’ by top creatives who then decide to induct some of them into the hall of fame.

The master of ceremony was Chuck Porter, Canadian, owner of MDC, which controls agencies like Cliff Freeman & Partners, Crisptin Porter + Bogusky and of course Zig. He was very good and super charismatic.

The spots that were indicted was a spot from Cliff Freeman and another one from Goodby Silverstein. I wish I could explain them to you but my storyboard writing abilities for today have vanquished with all the pina coladas.

After that we went over to have more cocktails (Oh not again) and met a lot of people, some which I knew from last year, whom I (of course) did not remember their names and had to do the "Hey how are you?" to try to see if I could get them to tell me their names. After failing at that I walked a bit outside on the super busy Miami Beach boardwalk and then headed back to the hotel to find a chocolate mint on my pillow and a card with a quote that says “ A man’s dreams are an index to this greatness.”

So I’m going to be very very great right now and call it a night. See you tomorrow, we have a fun day ahead.
