IHAVEANIDEA SET TO PRESENT TWO PHENOMENAL ADVERTISING EVENTS
September 20 | 2004

Bring your clients. Bring your agency. Bring your appetite.

Toronto, September 20, 2004 - The Clio Awards, ihaveanidea - Canada's Advertising Intellectual Archive - and the project's newest sponsor, VCU Adcenter, are announcing the 2004 Clio Awards Show and the biggest advertising event of the century - Adchemistry.

After celebrating the freshest advertising and design in New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, and Hamburg, the Clio Awards Show will arrive in Toronto on Thursday October 14th. Attendees can expect more than your average cocktail reception, special guest presentations where the guests are actually special and, of course the Clio screenings.

Getting the all-important sponsors involved has been unusually smooth and rewarding. “Our sponsors have really stepped forward this time to make it will be an amazing evening for everyone,” says Ignacio Oreamuno, director of ihaveanidea.

Enlightening the crowd will be Adweek Creative All Star and former Chairman of the 2003 Clio Festival Bob Scarpelli, Gunn Report favourite Dan Pawych, Rethink's brand-minded creative director Chris Staples, and Mike Welling - a marketer whose ideas forced a revision of Advertising Standards Canada's code in order to allow for a more generous interpretation of the use of humour and fantasy in creative work.

Bob Scarpelli: Chairman & U.S. Chief Creative Officer, DDB Chicago
Chris Staples: Partner & Creative Director, Rethink
Dan Pawych: Creative Director, Downtown Partners
Mike Welling: Former Vice President, Unilever

Of special note, a free service called 'Invite a Client' is being promoted at ihaveanidea's 2004 Clio Awards website (ihaveanidea.org/clios2004). “This simple service was designed so that agencies, clients and ad industry partners could invite their associates and prospects to the awards,” says Jay Thompson, ihaveanidea's VP of Stuff, “You can't miss this one. We'll even send a car to pick you up if we have too!”

Following the Clios in Canada, ihaveanidea's new partnership with VCU Adcenter will birth the growing resource's first ever event in the United States - Adchemistry - the biggest advertising event of the century. (Well? It kinda is.)

In a tribute to those rare beasts, real partnerships, half a dozen of the world's top creative directors will paint a picture of why their unions work so well, how their results have been so sustainably amazing, and what the capacity of partnerships is to create groundbreaking ideas at any level of business. Each one of these gentlemen is a past or present partner with others on the panel:

Andy Berlin: Chairman & Chief Executive Red Cell
Lee Clow: Worldwide Creative Director TBWA
Jeff Goodby: CD & Co-Chairman Goodby, Silverstein & Partners
Steve Hayden: Worldwide Creative Director Ogilvy & Mather
David Kennedy: Co-founder Wieden & Kennedy
Dan Wieden: President and Creative Director Wieden & Kennedy

Adchemistry attendees can expect these creative icons to take more than a few friendly jabs at each other; all party-goers have to do is enjoy dinner and relax in the knowledge that Adchemistry, which is a one-time event, will help raise scholarship money for deserving advertising students at VCU's Adcenter.

“As a creative, the opportunity to attend an event like Adchemistry is too good,” proclaims ihaveanidea director, Ignacio Oreamuno. “I don't think there has been or that there will be another time or place where all these living ad legends will be together talking about a topic as delicate, and as important, as partnerships. I'm trilled to put ihavenaidea's engines behind this and to help VCU Adcenter, one of the best advertising schools in North America, if not the very best, to push the limits of advertising education.”

The Clio Awards Show in Toronto takes place at 4:00 PM on Thursday October 14th at The Mod Club Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at www.ihaveanidea.org/theclios2004

Adchemistry takes place at 6:00 PM on November 4th at New York City's Gotham Hall. Tickets for Adchemistry can be purchased at www.ihaveanidea.org/adchemistry
