FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DEADLINE: April 23, 2004
Who can enter? Anybody under 30 years of age who does not
work in an advertising agency. Interns working in an ad agency are
exempt and can participate. Radio station writers are allowed to
participate. Professional creative copywriters or art directors
are not eligible to participate.
Do I have to be enrolled in a school? No
you don't.
Do I have to live in Canada to participate? We accept entries from
any country in the world.
Can I write a campaign? Yes you can. If
you feel an idea has legs then go ahead. A single execution has equal
chances of winning. Remember,
some ideas only work as a campaign as some one-offs cannot work as
a campaign. You’ll have to decide what makes your idea stronger.
Can I work in teams? Yes, teams of two
can submit entries together. No more than two people in a team.
What will judges be looking for? Judges
will be looking for a really fresh, clever idea that is just as well
written. Don't censor yourself,
go far, explore
all the posibilities that audio brings. Don't try to make A radio
spot, aim to make THE radio spot. You can do it.
I have recorded my radio spot, can I submit it
with my entry or by itself in cd or tape format? No, for judging
to be fair, all entries must be equally presented. Only written scripts
in the official template
will be accepted.
How many entries can I submit? As many as you want. If you submit
a campaign please make sure you make this clear. You can submit as
many different separate ideas as you want.
Will I be invited to produce the spot? Yes,
you will be invited to produce the spot alongside Pirate Radio &
Television, but please note that accomodations and transportation
to and from Pirate's facility in Toronto is at your cost.
Can I submit different executions of the same idea?
Every judge is equiped with a TX-1000 Shredder Deluxe. I would not
play this line if I were you. It’s like going duck hunting
with a bazooka. It’s just not done and it will annoy the judges.
Being a good creative is all about knowing what execution is best
for your idea.
