tune in to put together the first ever radio competition for budding creatives
February 2, 2004 (Toronto) Ihaveanidea, Canada’s Advertising Intellectual
Archive has launched the first radio competition ever held in the
nation for students and aspiring young creatives.
The competition which is sponsored by Pirate Radio & the Radio Marketing
Bureau of Canada will challenge young creatives to create a campaign for Auto
Trader magazine. The winner(s) will have their idea produced by Pirate Radio & Television,
in addition to several other prizes. With a prestigious group of judges coming
from as far as the UK and from agencies as highly acclaimed as Wieden & Kennedy
the winner(s) of this landmark competition can expect some serious industry recognition.
“
I have always believed that radio is the real place for writers to shine in this
business.” says Terry O’Reilly who is a Partner at Pirate
Radio & Television, “As
a medium, it is the toughest to write, and the toughest to present, and as a
result, it is rarely done well. And when it is done well, it’s killer.
So I love the idea of this competition, especially because it invites students
to start thinking radio, and hopefully, fall in love with the medium at the same
time. Like I did.”
“
Aspiring and young creatives dream about making TV ads” says Ignacio Oreamuno,
Founder and Director of Ihaveanidea, “but the reality is that Canada’s
competitive advantage lies in radio advertising. Modest advertising budgets and
a great pool of Canadian humour only make it natural to exploit this area more.
Ad schools are not pushing students to write radio and the reality is that when
you land your first job you’ll most likely write radio long before you
ever touch TV. I hope that through the competition we help and encourage hundreds
of new creatives to take their first steps in this amazing field.”
With this competition, Ihaveanidea marks yet another landmark step in its ardent
mission to revolutionize
the advertising industry in Canada. Despite being run as a grassroots effort
by junior and aspiring creatives it has, in only two years, taken
responsibility
of all of Canada’s pro-industry mandates and has accomplished several mammoth
achievements which include the most successful student advertising competition
ever done in Canada (Global Creatives 2003 with Labatts), the first and largest
coast to coast portfolio night ever done in Canada (Portfolio Night in Canada),
the first ever online reality-tv advertising show (The Alek Journals), the most
visited online resource for the ad industry (Ihaveanidea) and now the first ever
junior radio competition.
Deadline for entries is April 2, 2004. The competition will culminate in Portfolio
Night in Canada, Ihaveanidea’s
premier advertising event and Canada’s largest coast-to-coast portfolio
review, where the winners will
be announced to the participants and media.
